Window 1 - The Lamb and the CrossThe theology of the lamb goes back to the very beginning when we are told, “And Abel brought the firstlings of his sheep...And the Lord had respect unto Abel and his offerings.” (Genesis 4:4) Later in Exodus 12:3-13, the Lord addressed Moses in Egypt, telling him He would pass over the houses with Iamb’s blood on the two door posts and the lintel, and no harm would come to the first-born. Isaiah wrote in his great redemptive prophecy, “He was oppressed and He was afflicted yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7) John the Baptist heralded the arrival of the Messiah when he proclaimed at the Jordan River, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29) Peter, in his letter wrote with confirmation, “Ye know that we were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.” (1 Peter 1:18~19) John in his Patmos vision in Revelation 5 explains, “And I saw between the throne...and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain...And I looked and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne...and thousands of thousands saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.” |
